Reservoir Simulation Engineer

Jiaqi Du is a Reservoir Simulation Engineer with ResFrac, responsible for programming the reservoir simulator of ResFrac.

Prior to joining ResFrac, Jiaqi earned a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and recently completed an internship at SLB, where she developed a field-scale hydro-shearing model for geothermal reservoirs. She enjoys turning complex subsurface problems into practical models.

Outside of engineering, Jiaqi loves swimming and spontaneous road trips—especially when they lead somewhere unexpected.

Production impact of horizontal fractures

At the 2025 SPE International Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference, we (Dontsov, Zoback, McClure, and Fowler) presented “Hydraulic Fracture Propagation Along Bedding Planes Might Be More Prevalent Than We Think” (SPE-226637). The paper reviewed case studies with evidence of horizontal or bedding plane fractures from microseismic, fiber optics, core observations, and casing deformation.
