Stress observation points and planes

ResFrac’s stress observation capability lets you track stress, strain, and displacement at user-defined points and planes within the simulation domain. This is particularly valuable for recreating fiber optic diagnostic data and calibrating mechanical model parameters against field observations.

Observation points record how the local stress state evolves at a fixed location during fracturing and production. Observation planes provide a cross-sectional view of stress and displacement fields, useful for identifying strain fronts and visualizing mechanical interaction between wells.

This guide covers how to define observation points and planes, what outputs are available, and how to use them to compare simulated mechanical responses to measured data.
