For this month’s Office Hours, we had a demo and presentation from Mark McClure on refracturing, automated history matching, and automated economic optimization. This presentation covers a ResFrac case study using a public ‘refrac’ dataset, the “SPE Data Repository Well #1“. This work was performed for a 2022 SPE workshop, “What’s New for PTA and RTA?” This data set was somewhat limited in data, so in many cases, we had to make ‘reasonable’ assumptions to represent a typical ‘Eagle Ford’ well. Using the ResFrac hydraulic fracturing and reservoir simulator, first, we perform an automated history match to the original and ‘post-refrac’ dataset. Then, we perform an automated economic optimization on job size for the refrac design.
