Multi-stage hydraulic fracturing of horizontal wells have revolutionized the oil and gas industry, yet it has been underutilized in Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) despite similarities in the challenges faced. However, recent breakthroughs, such as Fervo’s Blue Mountain EGS demonstration project and progress at the Utah FORGE EGS test site, suggest a changing landscape. This shift is expected to create promising opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and oil and gas managers with experience in unconventional reservoirs, as it unlocks the potential for clean, affordable, and reliable base-load energy, crucial for an efficient energy transition.
