For ResFrac July Office Hours, we had a presentation from ResFrac Reservoir and Completions Technical team lead, Sama Morsy, on her recently published paper, “Blind Testing Simulator Predictions of Refracturing Performance in the Bakken and the Permian Basin.” This study (paper available here) addresses the accuracy of simulation predictions for refracturing performance in four datasets– three in the Bakken and one in the Midland Basin. The simulations incorporated pre-refrac production data to predict post-refrac outcomes, showing an average uplift of 26% in cumulative production after one year. The model demonstrated an average error of 3.7% in predicting uplift, highlighting the importance of accounting for crosssflow and fracture morphology.
