July 2025 Fundamentals of Enhanced Geothermal Systems

Multistage fracturing is a breakthrough for EGS- dramatically improving energy production per well.

About this event

In Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), hydraulic stimulation improves the productivity of wells drilled in hot, low-permeability formations. This two-day training course provides a comprehensive introduction to EGS fundamentals and demonstrates how to use ResFrac to simulate and optimize EGS designs.

ResFrac is the only commercial software that fully integrates a true hydraulic fracturing simulator with a reservoir simulator–including geomechanical, hydraulic, and thermal effects– solving all governing physics simultaneously at each timestep. This unique capability allows for seamless simulation of an EGS well or pad throughout its full life cycle, making ResFrac particularly well suited for EGS applications.

Who Should Attend: This course is ideal for those looking to deepen their understanding of EGS and leverage ResFrac for EGS reservoir modeling and optimization.

Course will cover: In this two-day training course, we cover the basics of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), and will include an introduction to geothermal energy, recent field experience from FORGE and Fervo, EGS stimulation designs, thermal breakthrough, geothermal power production and direct-use applications, geothermal economics, and induced seismicity.

Participants will learn ResFrac and apply to a geothermal case study.  Learn the technical foundation of the ResFrac modeling approach; explore the software’s capabilities; set up, run, and visualize an EGS case study; gain insights into advanced ResFrac applications for geothermal, including the geothermal economics module and automated workflows.

Cost: Course cost is \$1000,  and includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks;  course slides.
